Professional Standards Committee This committee is made up of members who MUST have completed all of C.A.R.'s Professional Standards courses or the newest version of Professional Standards training, be a member of good standing and have been active in real estate for at least four (4) years. Committee members MUST review their training every two (2) years in order to remain serving on the committee. The committee members must be familiar with the Code of Ethics, Association Bylaws and the MLS Rules & Regulations. The Chair of this committee presides over all hearings, unless challenged or has a conflict of interest, at which time the Chair will appoint a committee member to hear the case in his/her stead. The Professional Standards Committee conducts hearings pertaining to Ethics, Arbitration and MLS Violations. The panels are made up of a Presiding Officer (usually the Chair) and two (2) additional panelists, with an alternate who runs the tape recorder. The alternate, who will fill in if a panelist does not appear, is not allowed to take part in any discussion during the hearing or subsequent deliberations. The alternate is strictly there to observe and learn. In addition to conducting hearings, the committee is also responsible, in coordination with the Education Chair, for the education of the membership in the matter of professionalism within the industry. The chair of this committee attends the monthly meeting of the Board of Directors, but is not entitled to vote. |
